OVER IT – DIVISION AND ANTAGONISM

Hatred stirs up conflict...

Proverbs 10:12 (NIV)

HOW DID WE GET THIS WAY?

1. Prolonged Stress

2. Politicized Culture

3. Personal Attacks

4. Pessimistic Outlook

Some HELPFUL Bible passages regarding ANTAGONISM AND DIVISION

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:11-12 (NIV)

You will be hated by everyone because of Me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Matthew 10:22 (NIV)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.”

Matthew 5:38-40 (NIV)

A SOLUTION TO ANTAGONISM (IN US)

1. Start with what you’re For.

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.

1 Corinthians 15:1 (NIV)

...If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless. But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord...

Philippians 3:4-8 (NIV)

2. Be slow to slam others.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged.

Matthew 7:1 (NIV)

For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Matthew 7:2 (NIV)

3. Always seek justice, but never revenge.

4.  Realize nothing or no one is too broken to be restored.
